Task 1: Look at the pictures. Work with a partner to make a list of things the family could 
do to save energy.

Hướng dẫn giải:
- They should turn off the faucets when they don't use them.
( Họ nờn tắt vũi nước khi khụng sử dụng.)
- They should switch off the lights when going to bed or out.
(Họ nờn tắt đốn khi đi ngủ hoặc đi ra ngoài.)
- They should turn off the television or the radio when they don't watch or listen to.
(Họ nờn tắt tivi hoặc radio khi khụng xem hoặc khụng nghe.)

- energy /ˈenədʒi/ (n): năng lượng - bill /bɪl/ (n): húa đơn
- enormous /ɪˈnɔːməs/(a): quỏ nhiều, to lớn - reduce /rɪˈdjuːs/(v): giảm
 - reduction /rɪˈdʌkʃn/ (n): sự giảm lại - plumber /ˈplʌmə(r)/ (n): thợ sửa ống nước
- crack /krổk/ (n): đường nứt - pipe/paɪp/ (n): đường ống (nước)
- bath /bɑːθ/ (n): bồn tắm - faucet /ˈfɔːsɪt/ (n) = tap: vũi nước
- drip/drɪp/ (v): chảy thành giọt 
1. Practice the dialogue with a partner.

 2. True or False? Check (√) the boxes. Then correct the false statements.

B. I suggest turning off the electric oven/ cooker. I suggest repairing the cooker. It may be

5. THEREFORE - HOWEVER : trạng từ (adverbs).
THEREFORE (do đú, vỡ thế) : đồng nghĩa với so, chỉ hậu quả
e.x: He’s busy ; therefore he can’t help you.
(Anh ấy bận; nờn anh ấy khụng thể giỳp bạn được.)
He's at a meeting now; therefore he can’t answer your phone.
He’s busy. Therefore he can’t help you.
He’s busy. He, therefore, can’t help you.
Chỳ ý: THEREFORE cú thể theo sau dấu phẩy (,) (a comma), dấu chấm phẩy (;) (a semi-
colon) hoặc dấu chấm cõu (a period) hoặc sau chủ từ.
HOWEVER (tuy nhiờn): diễn tả sự tương phản, đồng nghĩa với BUT nhưng luụn luụn nối 
liền hai mệnh đề.
e.x: He’s over seventy; however, he's still active.
(ễng ấy trờn 70, tuy nhiờn ụng cũn linh hoạt.)

Picture 1: Hanh can’t go to the movies with us tonight. She will have to look after her little 
sister.
Picture 2: If we go on wasting water, there will be a shortage of freshwater in a few decades.

anywhere.”
Picture 4: "Turn on the TV for me, will you? I want to watch the weather forecast.”
Picture 5: Mrs. Yen forgot to turn off the faucet when she left for work.
Task 3. Make suggestions. (Đưa ra lời đề nghị.)
– Suggest + V-ing: được dựng chủ yếu trong những tỡnh huống trang trọng, để núi 
chung chung, khụng ỏm chỉ một người cụ thể nào
Vớ dụ:
I suggest going out for dinner, but my mom doesn’t want to eat out.
(Tụi đề nghị ra ngoài ăn tối, nhưng mẹ tụi khụng thớch đi ăn tiệm.)
– Suggest + (that) + S + should + V (bare): Để đưa ra 1 đề xuất, ý kiến, khuyờn ai nờn 
làm gỡ (chỳng ta cú thể bỏ ‘that’ nếu ngữ cảnh khụng trang trọng)
Vớ dụ:
They suggest (that) she should perform one more song.
(Họ đề nghị (rằng) cụ ấy nờn hỏt thờm một bài nữa)
– Suggest + (that) + S + subjunctive Verb: Đề nghị (rằng) ai làm gỡ
Vớ dụ:
He suggest (that) we cook something to eat.
(Anh ấy đề nghị chỳng tụi nờn nấu gỡ đú để ăn.)
